Passive power is the lowest cost entry point for Power-over-Ethernet. These devices do not have the same detection and disconnect that users can find in traditional midspans, and therefore supply a continuous flow of power. These are typically intended for dedicated scenarios where it could not be inadvertently connected to a non-PoE ready device. Practical applications would be for devices that are in constant use such as a wireless access point.
