In 2003, the IEEE ratified a standard that outlined the definition and requirements of PoE designated the 802.3af standard. It allows for PoE applications requiring up to 12.95W of power which is inclusive of a variety of devices including IP Phones, Wireless Access Points and Security Cameras. This standard also made PoE truly international as it is made to operate with all global AC Inputs.
