For the same circuit, these waveforms show the IGBT turn-on and diode turn-off with a Si and SiC diode. Note the elimination of the diode recovery current and the resulting decrease in the IGBT current and overshoot. Silicon Carbide produces a large reduction in area under the power curve (orange) showing the decrease in IGBT turn-on loss.
