Power supply design is an often overlooked yet increasingly challenging task for system level designers. As system complexity increases, power requirements increase all while board space needs to be reduced. Hence the need for a simpler point of load solution that maintains excellent efficiency while requiring a minimal overall footprint. Intel introduces the Enpirion EM2260 and EM2280 which integrate the inductor, controller, and MOSFETs into a footprint compatible 60 A/80 A PowerSoC. The EM2260 and EM2280 come in a small 23 x 18 mm package with varying height as shown here and the total solution size required is a minimal 650 mm².
